ProfessorRoberto Rivas1st Degree Black Belt & Head Kids Professor
He started training Jiu Jitsu in college back in 2010. He started by taking a P.E. class called Boxing. The instructor saw and he enjoyed it and made him aware of a grappling club on a different campus, said he might like it and encouraged him to go. After attending one class he was hooked and even though the club only met once a week, he never missed. Not long after that he brought his little brother along who was 16 at the time. Before they knew it, they had taken over their mom’s garage with mats everywhere, training anytime they could.
What brought him to Gracie Barra was his first Coach, Omar. He learned that he signed up at the local Gracie Barra in Webster so he had to follow. Coming into GB was an awesome experience, everyone was friendly and welcoming. At the same time everyone took training seriously, his new teammates were tough, technical and did not let him slack off. He felt right at home, trying to absorb as much information He could from Prof Draculino and Prof Brandon Mullins.
A few years later Roberto was hired on to work the front desk of the school. About 6 months after that he began assisting Prof Draculno with the kids’ classes. He was thrilled to be asked to help. First the little ones, then a bit later the Juniors and Teens. “I always enjoyed teaching, it is definitely a passion of mine. I always thought I would end up being a football coach when he was younger. I am now the Head Instructor for the Kids program, and I am incredibly fortunate to have the position I have. Helping kids gain confidence, strength, and resiliency through this wonderful art we call Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.”

ProfessorRicardo RivasBlack Belt
He first started training Jiu Jitsu at around 16 years old but he didn’t really know what he was doing, he just learned cool stuff from some friends.
His brother and him would wrestler around the house without knowing what they were doing but then his brother started taking classes at the local college. Once his brother did that he started to beat him up every time they trained so Ricardo knew he had to join. From that point on they continued their education and enrolled at Gracie Barra with Professor Draculino and began to train any time they could. Professor Draculino got to know them really well during that time and most importantly began to trust them with some responsibilities around the school. As they continued to progress in rank, their responsibilities grew to the point that they are at now.
“Being an instructor at this academy is a blessing and one of the best parts about it all is getting to know all of the students that continue to come in.”
